Why Quant?

Quant roles are some of the most pursued across the university job market. Why do so many students (and possibly you) want to work in quant?

  1. Exciting work

Out of college, you will be directly applying the knowledge you have recieved from coursework to real problems - very real problems. Quant firms trade on the order of hundreds of million dollars a day, across multiple asset classes, exchanges and timezones. The stakes are raised when your Autograder becomes the firm's PnL.

  2. People

Firms hire the only the best out of the graduating class every year, so your colleagues will be some of the brightest people you will meet in your life. In a typical intern class, expect to find multiple International Olympiad finalists, top Putnam scorers, leaders of students orgs at colleges across the country, and students with extensive research abroad. These are great resources to learn from and work with.

  3. Pay

Any quant role will compensate you enough so that your efforts will be worth it. Take a look at levels.fyi and type in some firm names (Citadel, Jane Street, etc.) if you want more specific info.
